“240 students joined us from over 30 countries!”

The International Student Track at Word Alive 2021

Students from all over the world were present at the Word Alive: International Student Track, which took place online on April 6th – 10th.

Although we were obviously disappointed at not being able to meet in person this year, we were very excited to see how many would take advantage of the online option. We were thrilled when  240 people joined us from over 30 countries – many of whom were watching in their home countries.

The Main Sessions

Peter Teagle was once again our excellent main speaker – both in the Bible talks and the Q&A sessions. The Bible topic this year was ‘Fixing our Hearts and Minds on Jesus’, studying the book of Colossians. Many of the international students had never studied Colossians before, and yet both Christians and seekers were blessed by what they heard.

The Q&A sessions proved to be very powerful times, often with very personal questions being asked and answered. In the afternoons, the many Discussion Groups (we had over 50 Discussion Group leaders who did an amazing job) were then able to follow up the Bible Talks and Q&A sessions, as they worked through the Discussion Booklet. These groups were a key part of the track.

New Seminars Were a Great Success

A significant development this year was the addition of Seminars, in effect doubling the teaching content of the track. Each one was brilliantly structured and presented, and for the first time we held a seminar day (four seminars) on the Saturday. They were very well attended throughout the week, and again provided a significant resource for the Discussion Group leaders to follow up in their groups.

The seminars included: Life after graduation; Gods, ghosts, spirits and ancestors; When things fall apart: dealing with suffering; Finding a Church back home… and staying; Sharing your testimony with family and friends.

The feedback has been extremely encouraging in terms of seeing Christians having a greater desire to know God better and others decide to become Christians for the first time. One of the helpers who attended the track later used some material to help their international student make a faith commitment.

For those of us working with international students Word Alive is always a special week – for me, and I know for many others, it’s one of the highlights of the year.

On behalf of the planning team, thank you so much for praying for the track. We are very much looking forward to seeing how God will use this track in the weeks, months and years to come.
