Stories of Celebration: Coming To Faith In Exeter

A Walk In Faith Over Time

We are excited to share this recent testimony from our Exeter Centre, where staff share a particularly exciting story of an international student who has become open to the Gospel;

W is originally from China although as an adult he emigrated to Canada, where he completed his undergrad studies. He attended one of our Bible discussion group back in January 2023 and has been faithfully attending almost every week since while completing his Masters. We established 18 months ago that he was not a Christian but that he had had some positive contact with a Christian tutor at some point and was interested in finding out more.

Since then, he’s slowly moved from a place of not understanding much about Christianity, to a time when he seemed to appreciate Christian values; to now when he does seem to have a genuine faith of his own, understanding God as Father, Jesus as Saviour, and humans as needing salvation. At our Bible Discussion last night, we were discussing whether doing good works makes someone a Christian. A few months ago, I would have been certain that he would have assumed that this was both the way in and the main aim of being a Christian.

However recently he immediately took us to the thief on the cross saying; “he had never done any good works, and he didn’t have time to do any after he’d met Jesus, but Jesus says that this man will be with him in paradise. So we don’t need to do good works to be saved by Jesus, we just need to trust in him”

Please pray for W in his walk in faith…
