Summer Teams Events Continue!
We continue to celebrate our Summer Teams events happening across the UK and Ireland during this time of year, with a focus upon Manchester and Cambridge!
Manchester:
The Manchester International Outreach (MIO) team consisted of 21 people (some came only for one of the two weeks) from a variety of countries: Colombia, Brazil, Malaysia, China, France, The Netherlands and Britain. FI Manchester staff worker, Harmienke, led the commissioning service at her church as part of our orientation weekend as the team prepared for the outreach. There were seminars on Sharing the Gospel Cross-culturally, Overcoming Language Barriers as well as how to relate to students from different cultural backgrounds.
Good numbers of students from hard to reach countries have attended the themed cafes run by the team each of the weeknights, which including a barbecue, ‘Manchester by the Sea’, a Ceilidh, iCafé Olympics and an International Feast. Optional Bible studies have been held each night after the Cafés and on the last night a gospel talk will be given.
Cambridge:
Cambridge International Outreach has just got going. Our first team of 19 have been settling into the daily routine (and some getting over jetlag!), and dodging the rain showers.
In the mornings the team are reflecting on Daniel Ch 1-6, and learning more about the gospel and how to share it cross-culturally.
In the afternoons we have opportunities to connect and build friendship with language students while playing sports and running an English conversation practise session. We are glad for much more sun forecast and hope we’ll have more join our volleyball group now!
We are thankful for 25 guests on our first night running Andy’s Café. We had some familiar faces from our year-round work, and some new to us! The oldest and youngest were at the Bible discussion, together with a lady who came to faith with us last summer, thinking about what Jesus says is our greatest need. We are encouraged that just after a couple of nights the team has been able to have the start of many conversations about Christian faith with guests from a wide variety of countries, and we look forward to these deepening in the coming weeks.
